Consistently supported local recreation programs and naming of a recreation director

Proposed town quarterly issue forums 2000
Proposed Community Activities Committee December 2004. Has been started.
Co-Sponsor of Fairmont Youth Council (Helped get it organized and started)
Worked for 5 years to obtain funding through a PARTF grant for a community park; when land from a burned warehouse was donated to the town a grant was finally awarded resulting in our present community park on S. Main Street
Proposed original idea in January 1998 to start an effort for a community building
Supported adoption of Martin Luther King Day by Town of Fairmont
Supported development of Borderbelt Farmers Museum in former train depot
Supported development of public library in former Southern National Bank building
Member of Fairmont Housing Authority Anti-Drug Task Force in late 80’s.
Worked with and encouraged Kenneth and Lisa Rust to open a McDonalds in town
Fully supported the construction of our $7 million regional wastewater treatment plant
Fully supported Woodfield I and II, Greenbriar LTC, and the Dyalsis Clinic located all on S. Walnut St.
Currently working with company management officials to build a gazebo on grounds at Woodfield II.
Fully supported partnership with Robeson County government to provide sewer for residents of East Side Park thus providing another source of revenue to town.
Have called for seeking grant to run sewer to Exit 10 and 14 so when new business develops there we can offer our sewer services and gain revenue.
Have consistently called for uniform enforcement of vacant lot and abandoned
vehicle ordinances to improve the look of our community
Instrumental in getting a committee formed to replace and enhance the four town entrance signs -1999
Supported the Fairmont Civitans in their youth baseball program
Supported the Fairmont Rotary Club by sponsoring the Interact Club 1991-1999
Led effort to create a planting area adjacent to Mill Branch canal and helped or-ganize outdoor band concerts there
Supported with my presence and donations the Joy Johnson annual scholarships
Helped created the “Big Dawg” Circle of Friends foundation in memory of coach and teacher Bill Taylor. Foundation has sent 70 student atheletes to summer sports camps in the past 3 years.
Fully supported Southeastern Regional Medical Center opening a clinic in Fairmont.
